2012 - Ending Notez

SAG @ my Fortune

The Software AG Premier League (SPL) initiated for Chennai colleagues was a series of fun filled events and the year-end Christmas Get together party with families commemorated a delightful end to the year 2012.
It all started when the SAG Employee Club organizers decided to try a whole new ball game in the Chennai office. Four captains, Balaji, Samuel, Karthik S and Malli were chosen to lead four teams to battle for the ultimate sport extravaganza. Each team captain was given 1000 points for the auction to bid for 10 players. In the true spirit of SPL, each team chose a catchy name (Torpedoes, ZionZ, Matadorz, Snipers) along with custom designed team logo and theme music. A short teaser video was also made which amused everyone (http://goo.gl/1wLtX).

To ensure all hard working SAG’ians had fun, fixtures were scheduled to showcase their hidden talent in sports. The indoor games (Carom, Chess and Table Tennis) were conducted in the office premises during non-working hours. The outdoor games (Cricket, Volleyball) were held on a fine Saturday at a beach resort. Custom designed team jerseys were gifted to the teams with the team logo, player’s nick name and number. The day began with a high scoring T15 cricket match between collaged teams and 6s rained from both teams. A thrilling 6 as a last stroke in the last over sealed the chase of 126 runs in style. The Snipers demonstrated clinical performances to become victorious in Volleyball. The day’s events proved to be refreshing and an extraordinary team building activity.

The much awaited Sports’ day finale on the 12th of December, 2012 started off with the finals for the indoor games. Matadorz rocked the finals in Carom by overcoming the initial nervousness of expectations. Zionz decimated the favorites with stunning array of smashes to win the Table Tennis. Torpedoes dominated in Chess by edging past the highly competitive brains. Then the teams were all treated with an extraordinary lunch at Mast Kalandar with Punjabi cuisine. Later, we had a series of events to decide the winning team of SPL 1. 25 points were up for grabs from events such as Know Your Office, Dumb Charades, Guess the word, Tail the donkey and Food competition. Matadorz earned 25 points. Thus the Finale came to an end with the Torpedoes conquering the SPL 1 trophy with a massive 215 points from the competitive Zionz with 210 points, closely followed by Matadorz with 175 points and Snipers with 170 points.

To end the year 2012 in a grand fashion, a Christmas Party with SAG family was arranged on 13th December in a 5* hotel. The families of the employees embraced the occasion with their presence. A galore of games and events awaited the kids including magic show, tattoo painting, musical chair and bouncy castle. The party fun peaked with entertainments and kids grabbing the gifts. We all had unforgettable moments meeting with friends and their families. To commemorate the occasion, a life size collage was prepared by Murugavel that recapped the year that was, which was the spotlight of the party.
As the evening progressed, we had a magnificent buffet which featured a wide variety of cuisines. Finally, trophies were given to the winners of the SPL 1 and medals to the winners and runners of individual games.     The SPL 1 trophy was presented to the “Torpedoes” team amidst cheering and applause.

For every beginning, there must be an end. Even though the get together party came to an end, we had a remarkable time together that would be etched in everyone’s memories forever. The SPL 1 revealed our dynamism while the get together party bonded our families even more. A Big Thank you to the Chennai Employee Club organizers (Mahendran, Aravindhan, and Praveen) and other volunteers who amidst their work, did a bang-up job in putting it all together!!!
Watch out for SPL 2!!!
