Software AG Premier League '4 - Day Out

"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" is a proverb that well suits our current lifestyle. We @ Software AG, strongly believe that a balanced blend of work and recreation is the perfect way to keep the mind & soul refreshed. The Software AG Premier League (SPL) hosted the Outdoor Event on a Saturday, November 19, 2016. The event was held at Blue Lagoon, a resort located in the outskirts of the city.

The SPL exhibits 4 teams - Matadorz, Torpedos, Snipers and Zionz. A series of games that included Cricket, Volleyball, Throw-ball, and Swimming were scheduled and the competing teams were declared for the day.

CRICKET, the most popular sport in India, is one of the most exciting outdoor games that is enjoyed by everyone in Software AG. The 12-over match was a pulsating encounter right from the start and ended with a nail-biting victory.

We had a wonderful team lunch followed by a relaxation to gear up for the second half of the day.

Next was the VOLLEYBALL. The players had a small warm-up session. Every single match, be it the qualifiers or the finals, were so close. Though winning was the goal, every single player enjoyed the game and their passion for the game was significantly evident.

The energy drained during the truly competing match was regained with a short evening break accompanied by coffee & snacks.

The last and final game of the day was SWIMMING. Getting into the waters after a long and tiring day was a blissful experience. Yet, it was not the time for the contestants to relax. Everyone gathered along the pool side to encourage the swimmers. With people calling out the names of their respective team members, the entire pool was full of energy and enthusiasm.

End of the day, we all got to witness the sportsmanship in each one of us. Every experience in life teaches us new things and helps us grow as a person. And when you get to learn while having fun, it’s a buy one, get one offer !!!

Diwali '16

SAG - Pegasus'16

Chennai team was on board for an outward bound learning programme @ Pegasus institute for excellence from 13th-15th October 2016. The start was good with team members introducing themselves by briefly speaking about their hobbies and passions. The team was eager to hear this as we had more new hires who have joined the team.

The program comprised of various activities based on the methodology of ‘Action Learning Cycle’. The activities were followed by a reflection session to allow us to ponder on various aspects of the activity relating to the work space.

The first challenge was to bring in a long pole to the center of the spiral by using ropes and was time bound. All the teams did well to get the task done. Acceptance, Responsibility, Reaching out to others were the take away from this spiral activity.

The goal of the cooking activity was to get a catering contract by presenting the food menu and cooking some of them. This activity made us to think of what can be done when we look outward instead of getting stick to our own boundaries. Overall we had a good lunch too after this activity.

Another mind breaking activity, where the four teams standing around the square has to reach the opposite side. The teams should form a chain to cross the side and ensure that the chain isn't broken. The brick when there is no contact on it, will be removed in the course of the activity. We all were trying to apply our learning from the activities which we went through. Togetherness, Commitment, Concentration were the parameters matched to the brick activity.

This was a physically demanding activity more of an obstacle course where the team has to complete each hurdles upon which you earn your dollars. The idea was to maximize your earnings as a team. This activity brought out the enlightenment towards understanding the sole purpose of taking over a task. Maximizing revenue was the activity done.

This wooden blocks activity was a sheer evidence of the saying "Practice makes a man perfect".... The teams were provided wooden planks which should be fitted according to provided geometry. The idea was the whole team complete this task in 320 seconds and we did it in the second trail with a nail-biting finish.

The three points which stood out in the programme was

            • Challenge your inhibitions.
            • Grapple your fears and learn to manage them.
            • Have a lot of fun along the way of learning.

They help us focus on creating habits to reach our goals by setting objectives. Being successful would take  a deep dive into self and figure what strengths are you going to play on to deal with what you may be lacking. The programme helped us to discover our own potential.

The various physically demanding, yet enjoyable activities focused on improving both individual and team performance by honing various skills ranging from communication and teamwork to problem solving and leadership. We came back energized and full of praise for the fun-filled learning experience.
